Washington is a beautiful state full of natural resources and wildlife.  Being green in Washington is often a matter of survival, a sense of pride and a desire to protect the resources of this natural state for everyone to enjoy. The beauty of our planet abounds throughout Washington from its scenic drives, rich stands of Douglas fir, hemlock, Ponderosa and white pine, spruce, larch and cedar, forested mountains rising up out of Puget Sound forming the archipelago San Juan Islands, eagle and whale watching, Olympic National Park – the only rainforest in the United States, towering Sitka spruce trees, lush mosses and ferns, and miles of pristine fog shrouded beaches, to beautiful alpine and subalpine scenery with lush meadows.  . So you can see why we want to conserve the natural beauty of our state. You'll find some of the best biking trails in the state and ample sites for camping, hiking, rock climbing and watching wildlife, so keeping our beautiful state environmentally productive is very important to us.
By creating green jobs, promoting environmental education, recycling, offering green building materials, sustainable buildings and energy efficient appliances, Washington is joining the rest of the green community to create a healthy environment for our children and all people to grow and experience this beautiful world we live in.
The origin of the name Washington is in honor of George Washington.  Its nickname is the ‘Evergreen State.
